HISTORY

Introduced in July 2010, The Mac Pro (Mid 2010) improved processor speed and GPU performance over the previous Mac Pro (Early 2009). It came in two highly-customizable configurations: The Quad-Core model included a 4-core 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon 3500-series processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, and 1 GB of VRAM, for $2499 U.S. (3.2 GHz 4-core "Bloomfield" or 3.33 GHz 6-core "Gulftown" processors and up to 16 GB of RAM were available as Built-to-order options). The 8-core model included two 4-core 2.4 GHz Intel Xeon 5600-series processors, 6 GB of RAM, a 1 TB 7200 RPM hard drive, and 1 GB of VRAM, for $3499 U.S. (2x2.66 and 2x2.93 GHz 6-core "Gulftown" processors and up to 32 GB of RAM were available as built-to-order options). Built-to-order options for both models included up to 8 TB of storage (via four hard drive bays), an additional ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card, an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, a second 18x SuperDrive, and RAID and Fibre Channel PCI Express cards.
